Reader’s Digest issue from October 1950 includes the article Double-Barreled Hope for Alcoholics by Paul de Kruif.

This article points out that studies indicate that some stages of alcoholism may be due to a glandular deficiency and may be corrected by hormone injections. Dr. James Smith in New York City began giving injections of adrenal cortical extract(ACE) to patients that were suffering from DT’s and began seeing positive results. Included in this article is an interview with statements made by the founder of AA in Chicago, Earl Treat. The author of the article concludes with the idea of a combination of ACE injections and patients joining AA would possibly increase success rates.

This magazine is in good condition. There is rubbing wear to the front and back covers, pen writing at the top of the front cover, wear at the spine inside the front cover and some page toning. The article is on pages 130-134.
