Alcoholics Anonymous 1939 Big Book FIRST EDITION/FIRST PRINTING  "Big Red" VG

This Big Book is the very first printing of the text Alcoholics Anonymous with a published date of April 1939. Eager to get the message of hope out to the "real alcoholic" , the original manuscript was rushed to the printer with handwritten edits, cross outs and notes in the margin. Without adequate funds to pay for this printing, the first run was limited to under 5000 and released from Cornwall on a C.O.D. basis. It took two years to sell all of this first run, and only after the publicity from the Jack Alexander article in the Saturday Evening Post of March 1, 1941, did the second printing begin. This book today is highly sought after by AA collectors and many are in the hands of archivists and collectors, never to find their way into the marketplace!

This book is in very good condition. There is only minor wear to the red cloth cover with some white spots on the front.  The gilt lettering on the cover is bright and consistent throughout. The gilt lettering on the spine displaying "Alcoholics Anonymous" is bright and solid; there is darkening of the gilt showing "Works Publishing."  The binding original and tight. The hinges are in very good condition. There no loose, missing pages or torn pages.  This book is a true Original.

Previous owners' names are on the first front end page. There is no other writing in the book. There is a mark or stain on the last back end page. Overall this book is a very solid, structurally sound, good looking book; truly worthy of adding to your collection!
