Here you can read the Foreword to learn more about this book:
THE AUTHOR makes no pretense of being a writer.
His name is not listed correctly, but anonymously, due to the tradition of Alcoholics Anonymous. All of the things set out in this book are true facts, and there is no fiction contained here-in.
It is often said that alcohol makes a man live in the land of fantasy. Well, if you think that is fantasy, then the author believes that the alcoholic has two lives of fantasy to live-one while drinking compulsively, and the other after AA and after he has ceased to drink any more.
This latter life, with a clear mind, with a great tolerance, and with the knowledge that charity begins inside a guy's heart with a "thinking of others" instead of Self, with a giving of yourself in order that you retain the happiness you have, this life is the greatest of Almighty God's blessings-the serenity that comes from finding out The Hard Way, how to live.
Without this part of the AA program, it's like having a ticket to the Grandstand for the races-and not getting by the paddock.
The AA program, in its entirety, is in the humble opinion of the author, the way to find serenity, to find happiness, and to find gratitude to God and your AA sponsor.
The author's life since AA hasn't been the most successful one he knows of in AA-but to him, it's the most successful. The ability that AA has taught me to live a day at a time and to be grateful for what I have instead of continually wanting much more. this gratefulness that we learn is a great asset in life. It tends to serenity. It leads to humility. And it keeps a fellow ever mindful that he is put on this earth to serve his fellow man, that we are our brother's keeper, whether we like it or not.
If this book helps just one fellow with a drinking problem to find AA, it will be worth its weight in gold.
