AA's Godparents: Three Early Influences on Alcoholics Anonymous and Its Foundation, Carl Jung, Emmet Fox, Jack Alexander by Igor I. Sikorsky, Jr.

This is the First printing of this book from 1990. This book has become increasingly rare to find as it is now out of print.

Here you can read the Introduction to learn more about this book:

“At a crucial time in the development of Alcoholics Anonymous there appeared individuals who were not alcoholics but whose inspiration and interest in the growing fellowship infused it with strength and a spiritual direction.

Three of these individuals are described in the following pages. Carl Jung, the distinguished psychiatrist, was, in the words of Bill Wilson, owed a "long overdue message of deep appreciation" for his role in founding the fellowship, which is best summarized in the classic exchange of correspondence between Bill W. and Carl Jung.

Emmet Fox was a distinguished theologian and religious lecturer in the 1930s and 1940s. Before there was any official AA literature, his work served as the basic text for recovering alcoholics. Part 2 of this book contains a brief outline of Emmet Fox's life and his role in AA.

Part 3 contains the famous Jack Alexander article, "Alcoholics Anonymous," that appeared in the Saturday Evening Post in 1941. According to AA's Grapevine, that article marked a "milestone in the history of this fellowship." At the time of that report-March 1941-AA had two thousand members; the article inspired a deluge of mail and was a key factor in the explosive growth of AA in the 1940s.

A godparent is defined as one who, while not a direct biological parent, serves to infuse the spiritual life of the child; in this manner, Jung, Fox, and Alexander served as godparents of AA's spiritual foundation.”
