Alcoholics Anonymous First Edition 9th Printing Signed and inscribed by Bill Wilson to Anne Bingham
Alcoholics Anonymous First Edition 9th Printing Signed and inscribed by Bill Wilson to Devoe and Anne Bingham in December 1945.
Anne Bingham is recognized as the cofounder of Al-Anon with Lois Wilson. This is very special inscription as this was gifted to Devoe and Anne six years before the founding of Al-Anon. Devoe was an alcoholic in AA and became friends with the Wilson’s along with Anne.
The inscription by Bill reads:
“Dear Devoe & Anne, Lois & I cannot tell how much we appreciate your friendship and the thousand thoughtful acts by which you have shown it. Merry Christmas, Bill. Dec/45“
The inscription is dated December 1945 which was one month prior to the official public release of the 9th printing Big Book(January 1946).
This printing is from January 1946 with 20,000 copies released. This printing was slightly larger than the 8th printing with the remainder of the printings of the first edition being the same size. This was printed after the war had ended and the “Important Notice” about government regulations was removed from the book. Page 391 in this book is titled "Now We Are Twenty-Three Thousand".
