This is the popular book titled John Barleycorn by Jack London and is an extremely rare copy with the original dust jacket. This is a First Printing from August 1913. This version of the book was published by The Century Co.

Essentially autobiographical, Jack London's 1913 novel deals with the demons of alcohol that he fought most of his life. The name is taken from an old British folksong about alcohol. The story follows Jack from his early years as a sailor through his career as a successful writer. He describes the positive moments related to alcohol but also the despair brought by succumbing to its power.

Author, Jack London, was an American novelist, journalist and activist. A pioneer of commercial fiction and American magazines, he was one of the first American authors to become an international celebrity and earn a large fortune from writing. He was also an innovator in the genre that would later become known as science fiction.

This book is in excellent conditions for its age. The cover of the book shows minimal wear. There is no writing or markings inside the book. The dust jacket has experienced edge wear with tears. The bottom edge of the front cover of the dust jacket appears to have been trimmed.
