Publisher's Note

The Section on Alcohol Studies of the Laboratory of Applied Physiology, Yale University, is engaged in research and teaching on all aspects of the problems of alcohol. Foremost among the teaching activities is the annual summer course, initiated in 1943. While only a limited number of students can attend the summer session, expressions of interest in the subject matter have been nationwide.

It has not been practicable to prepare and edit the full text of all the lectures and seminars. Instead, this volume of abridged lectures, comprising a large part of the material, is published to satisfy the popular interest in scientific facts about alcohol problems as presented at the first summer session. The work of abridgment was done mainly by Mr. Harry S. Warner.
