This letter is the first written correspondence from Dr. Bob Smith, Co-Founder of Alcoholics Anonymous to Ed Webster, the author of the Little Red Book published in 1946 “An Interpretation of Alcoholics Anonymous Program of the Twelve Steps”, after its publication.

Dr. Bob edited this book and in this Handwritten two-sided letter on his personal stationary gives his first response to the author saying “I have enjoyed your little book very much & know that it will prove to be of a lot of help to many” (The letter preceded the books reference as “The Little Red Book”). Also, included is Dr. Bob’s appreciation for the semi-precious stones sent to him from Ed (One stone was used in a ring that was handed down to his son Bob Smith Jr.), his upcoming trip to Florida and the “number of letters and cards from folks at camp…” that he will not be attending.

Signed, “Love to Hazel (Ed’s wife) Most Sincerely Dr. Bob”

Dated: 12/29/1946
