Learn more about The Forum from the Foreword:

“TODAY's FORUM began with Lois, drafting our first Newsletter on a yellow pad at the old Clearing House. The yellow pad had to rest on her knee because there was only one desk and a table. Never one to complain, she simply went ahead each month, writing all groups to tell them what had been accomplished or proposed.

Lois continued writing the Newsletter for over two years while work increased enormously. A part-time staff member was needed to supplement our wonderful volunteers and we were fortunate enough to get Henrietta from among them. She took over the Newsletter. But as work kept mushrooming, the combined job of Newsletter and the office work was just too much for one person.

Shortly before that I had taken a full-time job in the United Service Organizations' Division of the YWCA National Board and had found it necessary to limit my volunteer work. It had been a wrench to give up my days at the Clearing House, where for almost two years, I had been assigned to corresponding with individuals and groups.

More rewarding and stimulating work would have been hard to find. When I went to USO I was unwilling to sever all ties so I clung to my Al-Anon Board of Trustees membership.

One evening in the spring of 1954 after work at USO, I arrived late at a Board meeting. Lois interrupted the discussion to tell me about Henrietta's difficulty and said that the Board had suggested I take over the Newsletter.

Without any hesitation or misgiving I lightheartedly agreed and have always been happy I did.”

The book is in very good condition. There is some fading to the cover. The spine is firm and the book is fully intact with no torn or missing pages. The inscription is on the first page of the book. There is a person’s name handwritten on the page and has been crossed out with black marker. There is no other writing or markings in the book. The dust jacket has some edge wear and small tears.

Please view all of the photos for the conditions.
