Man Takes A Drink by John C. Ford S.J. - Foreword by Marty Mann
Man Takes a Drink
FACTS AND PRINCIPLES
ABOUT ALCOHOLISM
BY JOHN C. FORD S.J.
This books Foreword was written by early AA member and Executive Director of The National Committee on Alcoholism, Marty Mann.
About this book:
MAN TAKES A DRINK tackles fairly, objectively, and with forthright clarity, one of the most baffling and complex problems of modern life: the use of beverage alcohol.
Countless Americans are misinformed and confused about their drinking. In her Foreword, Marty Mann, executive director of The National Committee on Alcoholism, says, "Although much has been written on this subject, unfortunately a large part of it has been biased propaganda."
Father Ford's book is unbiased and clearly informative on the problems of decisions about drinking and excessive drinking. It also treats, separately and thoroughly, the special and tragic problem of the triple sickness-of mind, body and spirit-called alcoholism. Mrs. Mann points out that it is "a world-wide problem" and, "far too important in the lives of us all to avoid or evade any longer."
To drink or not to drink, and if you drink, how to drink are among the questions discussed in this book. Those who are beginning to worry about their drinking will find here a pattern for self-diagnosis; those who are already definitely in trouble will discover how to avail themselves of the help and knowledge they need.
Each person must decide for himself whether his drinking is moderate or excessive.
In order to reach such a decision, the individual must possess clear, sound bases of scientific facts and spiritual principles. MAN TAKES A DRINK provides these bases, lucidly and directly. This is, as Mrs. Mann so aptly states, "the sane approach."
