Description
This is an authentic Third Printing (1961) of Stools and Bottles, written by Ed Webster (E. A. W.), the well-known AA member and author of The Little Red Book. Long regarded as a classic of early AA literature.
Webster uses a simple but powerful visual metaphor a three-legged stool representing Steps One, Two, and Three, and eight whiskey bottles symbolizing the character defects revealed through Step Four.
Originally delivered as an AA talk using physical props, the presentation became so effective that AA groups across the country requested repeat presentations. Unable to meet demand, Webster distilled the core ideas into this book, preserving the talk’s insight in written form.
Historical & AA Significance
Written by one of AA’s most influential early interpreters. Closely connected to The Little Red Book, one of the most widely used non-conference-approved AA texts of the era. Captures mid-century AA teaching methods emphasizing visual learning, repetition, and daily application. Frequently cited by long-time members as a formative tool in early sobriety.
