Description
This is the First Edition (1970) of Al-Anon’s Favorite Forum Editorials, signed and warmly inscribed in 1972 by its editor, Margaret D., one of the key voices in Al-Anon’s early literature development. This copy also includes an original Al-Anon pamphlet from the 1970s, tucked inside the book — a thoughtful artifact from the same era of fellowship growth.
The Forum, Al-Anon’s monthly magazine, was and remains the fellowship’s principal means of communication and encouragement between members and groups. This book gathers some of the most loved and meaningful editorials from those early issues, reflecting the wisdom, humor, and compassion that guided countless Al-Anon members in their personal recovery and family relationships.
From the Foreword
The Foreword recalls the origins of The Forum and its humble beginnings in the early 1950s, written first by Lois Wilson, co-founder of Al-Anon and wife of A.A. co-founder Bill W.
“TODAY’s FORUM began with Lois, drafting our first Newsletter on a yellow pad at the old Clearing House… Never one to complain, she simply went ahead each month, writing all groups to tell them what had been accomplished or proposed.”
As the office grew, Lois eventually passed editorial duties to volunteers like Henrietta and later to Margaret D., who accepted the role joyfully and continued to shape the voice of Al-Anon literature.
These collected essays capture both the spirit of early service and the evolution of Al-Anon from a small, volunteer-run newsletter into a worldwide fellowship of support and recovery.

Historical Significance
Published during a time of rapid expansion for Al-Anon, Al-Anon’s Favorite Forum Editorials preserves the early voice of the fellowship’s printed outreach — the compassion and clarity that helped families of alcoholics find understanding, serenity, and connection.
Margaret D. served as a vital link between Lois Wilson’s pioneering work and the professionalization of Al-Anon’s publications in the decades that followed. Her signed copies are rarely encountered, and this example — accompanied by its original 1970s pamphlet — is an especially meaningful artifact of Al-Anon’s literary and spiritual heritage.
