Published by The Alcoholic Foundation

An uncommon early directory documenting the remarkable growth and international reach of Alcoholics Anonymous during its formative years.

This 60-page booklet lists A.A. groups throughout the United States, Canada, and numerous other countries. Entries include group locations, reported membership numbers, contact names, mailing addresses, and telephone numbers. International listings include early groups in Ireland, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, and elsewhere.

Originally distributed only to group secretaries and a limited number of members who traveled extensively, the directory is prominently marked confidential and states that it was intended solely for A.A. purposes—not for use as a commercial mailing list. The cover also reminds members not to place the words “Alcoholics Anonymous” or the initials “AA” on outside correspondence.

A fascinating historical reference showing where A.A. groups existed, how they communicated, and how the Fellowship was spreading around the world in the spring of 1949.
