The AA Way of Life – Signed by Bill W. – Second Printing 1967 – Grey Dust Jacket (ODJ)
A rare and highly desirable collectible: The AA Way of Life, inscribed and signed by Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson. This is the Second Printing, 1967, featuring the original grey dust jacket – issued only on the first and second printings before the title was changed to As Bill Sees It in subsequent editions (with the orange dust jacket).
Inscription by Bill W.:
"Dear Paul, For your example of all that’s AA, my constant gratitude. Ever Bill – NY / 10/12/67"
This personal inscription reflects the deep gratitude and fellowship spirit of AA’s co-founder, making this book not just a collectible but also a piece of AA history.
About the Book:
Originally published in 1967, The AA Way of Life is a compilation of Bill Wilson’s writings, reflections, and insights on recovery, spiritual growth, and the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous. Drawn from his books, articles, correspondence, and Grapevine contributions, the volume is organized by themes such as acceptance, humility, gratitude, and the Twelve Steps.
The book was later retitled As Bill Sees It starting with the Third Printing (orange dust jacket), which remains in print today. Early printings with the grey dust jacket are scarce, especially signed copies.
Condition:
Book: Very Good condition. Clean text block with one small pen mark on p. 15; no other writing or markings.
Inscription: Bold and clear, on the first page.
Dust Jacket: Original grey jacket with minor edge wear, overall very presentable.
Binding: Tight and square.
Pages: Clean and crisp.
Significance:
Signed copies of The AA Way of Life are seldom seen on the market. This second printing with the original dust jacket and a warm, personal inscription from Bill W. makes it an especially important piece for collectors of AA history, Twelve Step literature, or rare association copies.
Provenance & Notes:
Only the first and second printings (1967) feature the grey dust jacket with no reference to As Bill Sees It.
Later retitled editions (from the Third Printing onward) were reissued with the orange dust jacket and the new title.
This book represents a key transitional moment in AA publishing history.
