Conference Digest 1961 — Eleventh Annual A.A. General Service Conference
Offered here is the “Early Bird” Edition of Conference Digest 1961, reporting on the Eleventh Annual General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous in New York. Prepared for delegates and area committeemen, the front page carries the headline “Willingness To Help Keys 11th Conference.”
The General Service Conference first met in 1951, providing a means for A.A. groups to participate in decisions affecting their shared services. By 1961, the Conference was an established part of the Fellowship’s service structure. Publications such as this Digest helped communicate its work to the people linking individual groups with the central office.
Reports address literature, anonymity, public information, institutional work, overseas groups, and the A.A. Grapevine. The issue also discusses the Birthday Plan for supporting services and reproduces a table of 1960 group contributions. Its G.S.O. report reviews activity during 1960, a reporting year distinct from the Digest’s 1961 publication.
