An original July 1955 issue of The A.A. Grapevine, published as the 20th Anniversary and International Convention Number following A.A.’s historic gathering in St. Louis.

The convention marked a defining moment in Alcoholics Anonymous history. At the final session, responsibility for A.A.’s Three Legacies of Recovery, Unity, and Service was formally entrusted to the Fellowship and its General Service Conference.

This issue includes Bill W.’s article “What Is the Third Legacy?—World Service, Its Heart,” explaining the role of service in carrying the A.A. message and maintaining the Fellowship’s worldwide structure.

Other notable contents include:

  • “For Man’s Pursuit of Maturity” — a contemporary review of the newly released Second Edition Big Book
  • “Some Facts About the New Big Book”
  • “Who Are A.A.’s Trustees?”
  • “Three Dimensions of A.A.” by Father Ed Dowling
  • Articles on the General Service Conference, group life, recovery, and A.A.’s international growth

The review and accompanying facts about the new Big Book are especially interesting, as the Second Edition was released in connection with the 1955 Convention.
