Bobbie B. by Gary Neidhardt — First Printing (2022), Inscribed Copy
Offered here is an author-inscribed First Printing of Bobbie B.: The Untold Story of A.A.’s “Fantastic Communicator” by Gary Neidhardt. Subtitled A Window into the Alcoholic Foundation Office in the 1940s, this illustrated paperback is identified as “First Printing V 1.0, November 3, 2022.”
Bobbie B. succeeded Ruth Hock as secretary of A.A.’s New York office in 1942. Her correspondence connected the developing Fellowship with people far from established groups. Letters carried practical help and encouragement at a time when the central office was a vital link for isolated members and new groups.
Neidhardt, a history researcher and writer, examines that work through correspondence, documents, and photographs. The book’s rear cover places Bobbie’s service from 1942 through mid-1949. Its focus brings attention to the office work and personal relationships that helped sustain A.A.’s expansion during the 1940s.
Author’s Inscription
The title page is dated “1-12-23” and inscribed, “Hope you enjoy a very true story that was eight years in the making,” followed by Gary Neidhardt’s signature.
