It refers to spirits, intoxicants - uh - booze! Any of the following departments should do nicely:

A STATEMENT FROM THE AUTHOR

This book is my love song to Alcoholics Anonymous.

I do not consider myself any great shakes as a success — but whatever I have accomplished in life I owe to A.A. My greatest reward would come from someone's picking this book up for kicks... and deciding that if A.A. has done all this for me it can do it for him or her, too.

The question I had to decide was whether or not to use my own name on this book. There are arguments both ways. Some may criticize me for "breaking my anonymity" — but my experience has been that I have been able to help many more people simply because I let it be known that I was an A.A. Every member's anonymity is sacred, and it should be presumed that he wants to be anony-mous. But if that member himself wishes to reveal that he is an A.A. it should be his privilege to do so.

I applied my chapter "60-40" to my own problem. The "majority rule" said I could help more people by speaking out. I was still seeking the right answer. I thought, argued, talked with A.A. friends and then turned it over to God. My answer came (as it always does) and now I know that what I did was right.
