Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions
Third Printing — December 1958
Alcoholics Anonymous Publishing, Inc.
Hardcover with Original Dust Jacket
Description
Offered here is an early Third Printing of Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, published by Alcoholics Anonymous Publishing, Inc. in December 1958.
First published in 1953, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions became one of the most important books in Alcoholics Anonymous literature. Written by Bill W., the book expands on the spiritual principles of the Twelve Steps while also presenting the Twelve Traditions—the guiding principles that helped protect A.A.’s unity, anonymity, and singleness of purpose as the Fellowship continued to grow.
Early printings of the “12 & 12” are desirable collector pieces because they represent the first years of the book’s circulation within A.A. groups, sponsorship, step study, and service work.
Identifying the Third Printing
The Second and Third Printings of Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions are nearly identical, and neither printing is clearly labeled on the copyright page with a printing statement or year.
This copy can be verified as a Third Printing by checking the final line of text at the bottom of page 18, which reads:
“Grand Central Station, New York 17, N. Y., U.S.A.”
This line differs from the Second Printing and serves as an important identifying point for collectors.
